The Chicago Cougars of the World Hockey Association went from the worst team in 1972 to playing in the Avco Cup finals in 1974. Unfortunately in that playoff series, they were unable to play on home ice due to scheduling conflicts and had to play in a 2,000 seat arena in Randhurst which was a PR nightmare in which they never recovered.
