Holy hands upraised in praising our Lord, that's how this lovely mosaic portrays St. Francis. The iconic brown robe, the tonsured head, the golden halo of one of the holiest men ever in the Church. He has a big rosary tucked into his rope belt, and to his side are the roses he would throw himself into when he faced temptation. On his hands are the wounds of Christ, the stigmata that Christ gave him.

This mosaic is from an external wall of the Franciscan Friary in Bolzano, Italy. Reportedly it was done when the friary was built in the 1300s. Mosaics from a thousand years before that often still look good, too.

There is a cross in every corner, and there is a border of leaves, which we take to be symbols of nature. Francis loved nature because it was the handiwork of God, and thus a reflection of our Lord.

Francis of one of the reasons we converted to the Catholic Church, and we find this mosaic to be a beautiful image of the Saint, and one that conveys the sense we have of him. We hope you enjoy it too.

** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of abouzt 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.
